The Grand National was won by 100-1 outsider Foinavon after a pile up at one fence. Donald Campbell was killed trying to break the speed record on Coniston Water. Sandie Shaw sang <em>Puppet on a String</em> for UK's first win in the Eurovision Song Contest. The Beatles released their album <em>Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band</em>. Wimbledon is televised in colour for the first time. Patrick McGoohan's <em>The Prisoner</em> was first broadcast in the UK on ITV.
